More than twenty centers and physical activity rooms from all over the island have joined in a statement to defend their activity and distance themselves from what happened in a gym in Arrecife, where a Covid-19 outbreak originated that already affects 147 people.
“As a professional and responsible group, we do not judge what happened in a single sports center on the island, that is what the health authorities are for. We place ourselves at the disposal of those responsible, if they deem it appropriate, and we will collaborate in the face of any malpractice that may occur in our sector in order to protect the health of the population of our island,” they point out.
Regarding the 24 centers represented by the signatories of the letter, they defend that they comply “scrupulously with the health regulations established for the prevention of Covid-19 infections”, and defend that this is why the cases declared in Lanzarote in the sector, “except” that of that specific gym, “are practically nil”.
“In Lanzarote we are dozens of gyms, training centers, rooms, sports centers and, in general, sports facilities, which daily welcome about 10,000 people who exercise”, they emphasize, insisting that until now there had been practically no incidents, despite the fact that “few sectors bring together so many people in spaces for common use”.
"It is one of the few with a sports origin that has occurred in Lanzarote"
“The case that the health authorities place in a gym in Arrecife is one of the few with a sports origin that has occurred in Lanzarote since the end of confinement, more than a year ago, which confirms the exceptional nature of said outbreak”, they reiterate in their statement, in which they begin by expressing their most “sincere concern for the large number of infections produced” and wishing that “all those affected can recover without complications”.
In addition, the signatories defend that they have worked “very responsibly to tackle this type of situation”, so they regret what a specific case may be affecting the image of everyone. “We firmly reject comments and judgments that place us as a dangerous area with a high rate of contagion, it is absolutely false,” they affirm.
Finally, they maintain that their work “has protected the health of thousands of people during this terrible pandemic”, pointing out that “it has been statistically and scientifically proven that the habitual practice of physical exercise decreases, in a very high percentage, the possibility of suffering severe symptoms of the adverse effects of Covid-19.
The physical and sports activity centers that sign the statement are The Box Wellness, Fuertegym Industries, Club Isla Lanzarote, Judo Club Costa Teguise, Personal Fitclub, mc2 action, Origenfamara021, The Jungle Box, Tagoror Crossfit, Paleotraining, CGR Tenesa Sol, paleotraining Tías, paleotraining Punta Mujeres, Pilates & Gyrotonic Lanzarote, Integra Yoga Studio, Escuela de artes escénicas Tania Marcer, Extreme Center, Studio Danza Emocional, Yoga con Amba, Espacio Airearte, Hang On Climbing Centre, DeportClinic, Crossfit Lanzarote and Parque Deportivo Municipal Arrecife.
