Nearly two dozen families have denounced "the lack of transparency", the "excuses" and the "contradictions" of the City Council of Teguise regarding the future of the Lola Municipal Children's School. At the same time, they have warned that the lack of places in this space "directly affects" their work-life balance and family life.
In a collective request, registered on April 13, seventeen families with children up to two years old have stated that their children need these public places. However, they have been left out of this service due to lack of staff. To date, the Teguise City Council has not responded to their demand, despite it having been stated as "urgent".
In the document sent to the Education Area of Teguise, the families have requested the immediate expansion of the staff of the Municipal Nursery School, as well as the opening of the zero to two years classroom to guarantee the schooling of these minors and a communication of the measures before the beginning of the next academic year.
These families have asked the Teguise City Council that if the request cannot be granted, to "provide an alternative or viable solution" to respond to the need for schooling of minors.
According to the families' version, the council has assured them that the transfer of the management of this resource to the Government of the Canary Islands "would require a new building by regulation", but that the center's management has affirmed that there is indeed physical capacity in this space to accommodate their children.
At the same time, these families have highlighted that although changes are foreseen in the management of nursery schools in the coming years, this "should not prevent" measures from being adopted to respond to the "current and urgent need for schooling".
First Teguise already denounced at the end of April the situation of "uncertainty" surrounding the municipal nursery of the municipality, whose continuity for the next academic year is not guaranteed due to the absence of a regulatory ordinance that allows its operation.
