Island authorities and members of various groups met this Sunday on Los Cocoteros beach, when it was 6 years since a tragedy that shocked Lanzarote. It was February 15, 2009 when a boat capsized 20 meters from the coast of Guatiza, leaving a toll of 25 dead, including 17 minors and 2 women. Councilors of the Cabildo and social groups met to remember the victims.
During this meeting, convened by the Cabildo, a floral offering was made in memory of the deceased next to the monolith that was erected in the place where the tragic shipwreck occurred.
The councilors of Citizen Participation and Immigration and Social Welfare, Juan Antonio de la Hoz and Marciano Acuña, were present at the event. The first vice president of the Cabildo, Joaquín Caraballo, and various authorities from city councils, the Government of the Canary Islands and the Delegation of the State Administration in Lanzarote also attended.
