The family and friends of Yeray Sánchez, the murdered 17-year-old who died on September 3 in London after being the victim of a brutal attack at the doors of a McDonald's in London, have said their final goodbye at the funeral held this Saturday morning in the church of San Ginés, in Arrecife.
His family was awaiting the autopsy and repatriation of the body from the United Kingdom in order to bury him in Lanzarote. In fact, his relatives opened a crowdfunding campaign with which they managed to raise the 4,500 pounds (5,200 euros) they needed to bring him back to the island.
The young man was allegedly stabbed by four teenagers, all of them minors, up to nine times last August 27.
His death caused a great commotion both in the British capital and in Lanzarote, the island to which he returned every summer to reunite with family and friends.
Yeray lived in southeast London and for the past two summers was part of the event company TecnoSound Canarias, with which he collaborated during his stays on the islands.
The tragedy has left those who knew him distraught, describing him as a hardworking, cheerful young man with strong ties in both London and Lanzarote.
Four Teenagers Aged 15 to 17 Accused
British police arrested four minors, aged between 15 and 17, accused of participating in the murder, who appeared in London courts charged with murder, grievous bodily harm, and possession of weapons. Their identity could not be published as they are minors.
The 15-year-old was the first to appear in court. He appeared before the Central Criminal Court of England and Wales, known as the Old Bailey, as it is located on the street of that name. Later, a 16-year-old joined him, as well as two other 17-year-olds, who went to the Bromley Magistrates' Court, a court of first instance.
