The young man from Lanzarote, Yeray Sánchez-Morales, 17 years old, died on September 3 in London after being the victim of a brutal attack at the doors of a McDonald’s on Old Kent Road. The boy, who received nine stab wounds allegedly at the hands of four English teenagers, was rushed to a hospital, where he could not overcome the serious injuries suffered in the early morning of August 27. His death has caused great shock both in the British capital and in Lanzarote, an island to which he returned every summer to reunite with family and friends.

Yeray resided in southeast London and, in the last two years, was part of the TecnoSound Canarias events company, in which he collaborated during his stays on the islands. The tragedy has left those who knew him dismayed, describing him as a hardworking, cheerful young man with strong ties in both London and Lanzarote. His case has revived the debate on youth violence in the British capital, where the number of stabbings worries authorities and civil society.

Four teenagers between 15 and 17 years old accused

For the moment, four minors between 15 and 17 years old have appeared before the courts of London accused of murder, serious injuries and possession of offensive weapons. Judge Rebecca Trowler KC ordered that the 15-year-old remain in custody due to the seriousness of the charges, while the Metropolitan Police keeps the investigation open and asks for citizen collaboration, especially from drivers who may have captured images of the attack with cameras installed in their vehicles.
