Message from Euskadi Ta Askatasuna to the Basque People.
Euskadi Ta Askatasuna has decided to declare a permanent ceasefire as of March 24, 2006.
The objective of this decision is to promote a democratic process in Euskal Herria to build a new framework in which the rights that correspond to us as a People are recognized, ensuring the possibility of developing all political options for the future.
At the end of that process, Basque citizens must have the word and the decision about their future.
The Spanish and French States must recognize the results of said democratic process, without any type of limitations. The decision that Basque citizens adopt about our future must be respected.
We call on all agents to act responsibly and be consistent with the step taken by ETA.
ETA calls on the authorities of Spain and France to respond positively to this new situation, leaving repression aside.
Finally, we call on Basque citizens to get involved in this process and fight for the rights that correspond to us as a People.
ETA shows its desire and will that the open process reaches the end, and thus achieve a true democratic situation for Euskal Herria, overcoming the conflict of long years and building a peace based on justice.
We reaffirm our commitment to continue taking steps in the future in accordance with that will.
Overcoming the conflict, here and now, is possible. That is the desire and will of ETA.
Euskal Herrian, 2006ko martxoan
Euskadi Ta Askatasuna E.T.A.
