The island's wine sector has managed to implement the first higher-level training cycle in Viticulture and Oenology in Lanzarote. This is a training that is only taught in five centers in Spain and thus responds to a "historical demand of the island's agricultural, winery and industrial sector", which requested a professionalization to be able to "hire trained specialists", according to the Lanzarote Chamber of Commerce.
The higher cycle in Viticulture and Oenology will begin in September, but registration is open until April 27 at the Integrated Vocational Training Center of Lanzarote, according to the institution.
The higher technicians in Viticulture and Oenology "will be specialists in obtaining resources for the operation of wineries, in the industrial processes for the manufacture of wines and in compliance with regulations and quality standards and respect for the environment." They also assure from the Chamber of Commerce that these "can work in wineries, in the transformation industry, marketing and exporting wine companies, in wine tourism, the countryside or start their own business".
The Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands, through the General Directorate of Vocational Training, "has understood the need for this demanded professionalization and has agreed to the implementation of this higher-level training cycle", they say in the statement. For this, it has also had the unanimous support of the Cabildo, the Regulatory Council of Wines of Lanzarote and the Chamber of Commerce.
From the island's Commerce institution they assert that "the wine industry in Lanzarote is strategic due to its relevance and economic contribution, but above all due to its tradition, the link with Tourism and its export potential." Likewise, they consider that these reasons have enough weight to "be worthy of a cycle that offers a wide range of job opportunities and that will mean a visible improvement of the business and productive fabric".
