The Ministry of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands has increased by almost 136,000 euros the budget items for operating expenses of educational centers on the islands.

This investment, of an exceptional and urgent nature, aims to cover different needs of educational centers in all stages and modalities of education, in particular, to combat the normal deterioration of buildings.

The allocation is in addition to another 750,000 euros approved in June to execute 78 maintenance works in centers throughout the Canary Islands, as well as the 1.2 million issued in December 2023 for the realization of 118 more actions, with the adaptation of infrastructures being one of the priorities of the ministry led by Poli Suárez.

On this occasion, the General Directorate of Infrastructures and Equipment, coordinated by Iván González, will carry out fifteen improvement actions in fourteen school facilities in Gran Canaria, Fuerteventura, Lanzarote, Tenerife and El Hierro, for which the General Directorate of Center Administration, Schooling and Complementary Services, directed by Carolina León, has already issued a new resolution for the release of these extraordinary allocations.

The beneficiary centers are the infant and primary education center (CEIP) Ana Betancor Estupiñán, the secondary education institutes (IES) Guía, Simón Pérez and Amurga and the Compulsory Education Center (CEO) Islas Canarias, all of them in Gran Canaria; the IES San Diego de Alcalá, in Fuerteventura; the IES Agustín Espinosa and San Bartolomé, in Lanzarote; the CEIP Juan García Pérez, Agustín Espinosa, Ángel Guimerá and the IES Lucas Martín Espino and Villalba Hervás, in Tenerife, and the CEIP El Mocanal Juana María Hernández Armas, in El Hierro.

The planned actions are mainly maintenance and conservation works, such as improving the fire protection system or water distribution networks, as well as creating shadows or covers.

However, these allocations can also be used to cover specific economic imbalances in the operating items, due to the realization of expenses higher than initially planned.
