Ana Brito, until now director of the Canarian Institute of Equality, passed away this past Thursday.
The president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Fernando Clavijo (CC), reported on Thursday afternoon the "very sad news", on a day already "sad" due to the double earthquake that shook Venezuela and has left hundreds of confirmed deaths so far.
"She was a woman very committed to building a more just and egalitarian society in all areas, especially from the classrooms, where she always worked to educate in equality," Clavijo said.
Brito held a diploma in Basic General Education Teaching from the University School of Basic General Education Teaching of Las Palmas and during her professional career she held the position of primary school teacher and director in different centers in Gran Canaria, La Palma and El Hierro.
In addition, she was a councilwoman for the Areas of Social Services, Youth, Culture and Sports, Libraries, Tourism, Education, Cemeteries and Funeral Homes of the M.I. City Council of Valverde (El Hierro) between 2008 and 2011 for the Agrupación Herreña Independiente (AHI).
On July 24, 2023, she was appointed director of the Canarian Institute of Equality.
