The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Waste area, coordinated by Hugo Delgado, and in collaboration with the Iraitza Tapones Solidarios Association, has carried out the ‘Solidarity Caps’ campaign, an initiative aimed at promoting social actions through recycling in the Island's educational centers.
Within the framework of this campaign, 79,500 kilograms of plastic caps have been collected which, after being taken to a recycling plant, are used in the manufacture of orthopedic devices and in helping people with special needs.
The Minister of Waste, Hugo Delgado, explains that this initiative was intended to help two children from Lanzarote, Gabriel Padilla, who suffers from cerebral palsy, and Ismael Rosario, who suffers from a motor disability of more than 90% due to a rare disease that affects his motor system.
“This campaign has been developed in collaboration with the families of Gabriel and Ismael, so that the funds raised from it can be used to finance therapies that contribute to improving their functionalities, with the consequent improvement in the quality of life of these children”, says the councilor.
The Iraitza Tapones Solidarios Association is a non-profit association with solidarity purposes aimed at helping people with great needs, such as orthopedic devices, operations and medical treatments. These objectives are achieved through the massive collection of plastic caps and subsequently taking them to a recycling plant. Through this campaign, in addition to helping people with different needs, we ensure that this plastic waste is recycled and becomes useful products again.
