The newly ordained priest, the Lanzarote native Alejandro Carmona, celebrated his first mass in the main church of San Ginés Obispo in Arrecife. The event took place last Sunday at 7:30 p.m. with the three naves of the temple packed by parishioners from all the parishes of the island, who wanted to support the young priest on that very special day.

An occasion where for the first time he became the president of the celebration of the Eucharist, which was concelebrated by fifteen fellow priests and six seminarians. For this special occasion, which will be part of the history of Lanzarote society and the Catholic community in particular, Alejandro wore an impeccable white chasuble, a gift from the parishes of San Ginés and Santa Elena in Playa Honda. Along with another gift that was given to him by a married couple who are friends belonging to the Charismatic Renewal, who were in charge of directing the songs of the celebration.

In addition, his fellow seminarian and friend Daniel was in charge of reading the psalm and his father Miguel Ángel participated in the second reading. A simple and emotional celebration that the new priest will keep deep in his heart with the commitment to continue carrying the message as a good disciple of Jesus. Minutes before the end of the Holy Mass, Alejandro addressed the community to "give thanks" for the expressions of affection received and for the "messages of support" to continue with the priestly mission. At the end of the celebration, the parishioners went to the parish halls to enjoy a varied assortment of canapés and pastries that each one had brought from their homes to share on such a special day.

Alejandro, who was ordained a priest on September 9 in the Cathedral of Santa Ana in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria by the Bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Monsignor José Mazuelos Pérez, will begin his priestly mission in Fuerteventura in Santa Ana Casillas del Ángel, serving as Chaplain of the Hospital of Fuerteventura and Parochial Vicar of Nuestra Señora del Rosario in Puerto del Rosario.
