The young man from Arrecife, Alejandro Jesús Carmona Arrocha, a resident of the Titerroy neighborhood, will be ordained a priest this Saturday, September 9, in the Cathedral of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The solemn Eucharist will be presided over by the Bishop of the Diocese of the Canary Islands, Monsignor José Mazuelo Pérez.

The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León Machín, has personally conveyed his congratulations to the young deacon, who from tomorrow will be ordained a presbyter, Alejandro Jesús Carmona Arrocha. The ordination will take place at 11 a.m. in the Cathedral of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The mayor conveyed to Carmona, and his family, that coinciding with his ordination on the same day in Gran Canaria with the Pilgrimage to Los Dolores, patron saint of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, in Mancha Blanca, he cannot accompany him, as he would have wished.

This year in Arrecife, the 225th anniversary of the founding of the Church of San Ginés Obispo, patron saint of the capital of Lanzarote, is commemorated, and whose creation gave rise to the constitution of the municipality of Arrecife in the year 1798.

Precisely, being a deacon, Alejandro Carmona preached the homily last August 25, the festivity of the patron saint of Arrecife, highlighting in it "the commitment of San Ginés to carry the message of Jesus, evangelizing and helping those most in need."

Previously, the ordination of Carmona Arrocha as a deacon took place in the autumn of 2022 in the main church of the capital of Lanzarote. The new priest, a native of Arrecife, has been very linked since his childhood and youth to the parishes of Titerroy, Valterra and San Ginés, in the capital of the island.
