Young Ariadna Martín will enjoy her most special docking this Friday, April 18, since becoming an Officer of Nautical and Maritime Transport two years ago, as it will be in her native island. Originally from Lanzarote and only 23 years old, she has become a third officer in the luxury cruise company Royal Caribbean Premium, which will curiously disembark on the island of volcanoes during Holy Week for the first time.
This nautical officer departed with this cruise ship, with a capacity of 2,990, from the British city of London, stopped in Vigo, and will finally make a voyage in Lanzarote. Along with her, the Royal Caribbean has a crew of a thousand people. "My idea is to convey to other young people that with perseverance, study, willpower, and desire, you can get anywhere," says her father, Javier Martín, during an interview with La Voz.
Although Ariadna Martín initially studied Medicine for a year, her heart told her that she should learn a trade related to the sea. It was at that moment, days before the deadline to access the Nautical degree, that she decided to make a radical change to her future. "I told her to enroll, to go for it, if that was what she liked, and then she started her career, she passed it year after year, with very good grades," says her father, visibly proud.
Ariadna Martín, a graduate of the University of La Laguna, spent a year of Erasmus at the German university of Emden, where she was able to enjoy the "best ship simulator in Europe." After that, she did internships on the Don Juan ship, of Líneas Romero, which connects Playa Blanca (Lanzarote) with Corralejo (Fuerteventura), then continued her training on the Juan de la Cosa hospital ship, in Cantabria; on the Esperanza del Mar ship, which is usually in Gran Canaria, but her journey was through Galicia; as well as two four-month embarkations on cargo ships of the Murueta company.
Although it has not always been easy, being a woman who is making her way in a largely masculinized profession, Javier is clear that "the sea is her life" and that his daughter was born for this.
