The mayor of Arrecife, Eva de Anta, and the Councilor for Education, Isabel Mesa, accompanied the participants this Tuesday in the VII Adapted Island Olympics organized by the Playa Honda Secondary School (IES) and by the teachers and students of the higher-level training cycle Technician in Animation of Physical and Sports Activities (TAFAD) of the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe.
This sports meeting, which took place on Playa Honda Avenue, on the sand of the beach and in the pavilion of the IES Playa Honda, was attended by 170 students from Lanzarote and two centers from Gran Canaria. In total, 21 educational centers participated. "We wanted to be with our champions on a very emotional day, in which we add capabilities for the right to an inclusive education," declared Eva de Anta, who praised the strength and courage of the participants and their families.
For Isabel Mesa, "the work of the monitors and teachers of the Island's centers is also admirable, who carry out an excellent job to visualize all talents. We are very satisfied with the enthusiastic participation of the educational community."
"More daring" tests
The head of studies of the IES Playa Honda, María Eugenia González, explained to Eva de Anta and Isabel Mesa that this year they have had the participation for the first time of the IES Amurga and Playa Arinaga, both from Gran Canaria, the IES Teguise and the CEIP Argana Alta. In addition, a new test was introduced on the beach called 'Diverace', with "more daring tests", and the IES Playa Honda pavilion was conditioned for the little ones.
The Arrecife City Council assumed the transportation of schoolchildren with functional diversity from the municipality to Playa Honda. Students from IES Las Maretas, the Centers for Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP) Titerroy, Benito Méndez Tarajano, Argana Alta, Los Geranios, and Capellanía participated from the municipality; and the Argana Compulsory Education Center (CEO).
