An old Covid outbreak in a restaurant in Lanzarote, which is still being monitored, now totals 44 cases and six hospitalizations, according to the Ministry of Health. In addition, in the last week 39 outbreaks have been registered on the island, two of them with 15 cases.
Regarding the outbreak registered at the Molina Orosa Hospital, it is noted that there are 10 affected, of which five are patients, three workers and two family members.
In the Canary Islands as a whole, the Ministry of Health reports a total of 138 outbreaks with 877 associated cases, of which 25 required hospital admission and two people have died. Of the total number of outbreaks, 54 occurred in Gran Canaria, 34 in Tenerife, 9 in Fuerteventura and 2 in El Hierro, which are added to the 39 in Lanzarote.
Regarding the area in which they occurred, it is highlighted that 59 outbreaks are of family origin, 49 of social origin, 17 work-related, 9 educational, two hospital, one social-health, one sports-related and another in an early childhood education center.
In the workplace, two outbreaks on fishing boats reported in Santa Cruz de Tenerife stand out: one with 8 confirmed cases, two of which are hospitalized, and another with 7 people involved.
Of the hospital outbreaks, in addition to the one registered at the Molina Orosa Hospital in Lanzarote, another one is pointed out at the Gran Canaria Dr. Negrín University Hospital with eight cases, of which seven are workers and one a family member, with no patients affected.
Most family outbreaks, among non-cohabitants
Regarding family outbreaks, the Ministry of Health states that this week it has been detected that most have occurred among non-cohabitants. Most of these outbreaks have fewer than 10 cases, although there are 17 outbreaks with more than 10 infected people.
The ones with the most cases are three: one of 28 and two of 20 cases, respectively, which occurred in Gran Canaria in social and family settings. In addition, there is one of 19 cases in Tenerife and several with 15 cases, of which two are registered in Lanzarote, two in Gran Canaria and one in Tenerife. For its part, in Fuerteventura there is an outbreak in a restaurant with 11 cases.
The outbreak in the sports field corresponds to a gym in Telde, in which seven positive cases have been confirmed. On the other hand, in the workplace, another outbreak of six people in a football team in Gran Canaria has been reported.
In addition, follow-up is still being done on the 81 old outbreaks that are still active, including the one registered in a restaurant in Lanzarote, which has grown with secondary cases. Another old outbreak that has increased its cases is the one linked to a birthday party in Tuineje, which now has 26 infected people.
