2017 was the year with the least rainfall in Lanzarote in the last sixteen years, according to figures from the State Meteorological Agency (Aemet) published by the Cabildo Data Center. According to these figures, last year it only rained 36 days on the island, with 49.4 liters per square meter falling.
These data contrast with those of 2016, which although it was not the year with the most water falling, it was the year with the most rainy days since 2000, with 61 days of rain. The data are relative to the airport station, but if compared with previous years, only in 2001 did it rain less in Lanzarote than in 2017. Then there were 31 days of rain and 38 liters per square meter of water were discharged on the island.
The year with the most rainfall in Lanzarote was 2005, with 211.6 liters per square meter, followed by 182.6 in 2014 and 147 in 2004.
August, the hottest month with 41.3 degrees
In terms of temperature, 2017 was somewhat warmer in Lanzarote than the previous year, with an average of 22 degrees compared to 21.7 in 2016. However, it was not the year with the highest temperature, as in 2010 the average temperature was 22.4.
August was the hottest month of 2017 with 41.3 degrees, followed by 37.3 in June and 36.1 in April. In contrast, the coldest months were January, with 22.9 degrees; December with 25.2; and November with 27.1.
