A group of gray whales that were playing (Globicephala macrorhynchus) surprised the crew of a boat that was sailing this Sunday off the coast of Lanzarote, in Costa Teguise. The video was sent by the reader Miro Matev, who witnessed this spectacle of nature.

These cetaceans, also known as pilot whales, are common in the Canary Islands waters and usually move in family groups. Their presence is a reflection of the great marine biodiversity that the island and the rest of the Canary Islands have.

During the winter and spring, it is common to spot dolphins and whales on the coasts of Lanzarote, especially during their migratory periods.
