The Líneas Romero Foundation, in collaboration with the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, has announced the call for the 'Sustainable Talent Awards'. This award seeks to "recognize and support individuals and companies" that contribute to sustainable development through innovative and socially responsible ideas.

The presentation ceremony, held this Friday morning, was supported by Migdalia Machín, Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands; Samuel Martín Morera, Second Vice President and Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Environment, Hunting and Fishing Area of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and La Graciosa; and the conveners: José Valle, President of the Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and Federico Romero, President of the Líneas Romero Foundation.

Prize of 5,500 euros for the winning project

The winning project will receive a financial prize of 5,500 euros and a certificate. In addition, the objectives of the competition, which is regional in scope, include "promoting innovation and socially responsible entrepreneurship, generating economically viable products and services with a positive environmental impact, and promoting the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)".

The Minister of Universities, Science, Innovation and Culture of the Government of the Canary Islands, Migdalia Machín, has expressed her gratitude and recognition to the Líneas Romero Foundation and the Chamber of Commerce for promoting this initiative, which she described as "a great success, as it undoubtedly constitutes support for fostering innovation in projects with social and environmental impact, in addition to contributing to retaining the enormous Canarian talent that we have in our land.”

The Minister also highlighted that "one of the fundamental objectives of the Canarian Government is to accelerate the transfer of knowledge to society and the business sector, in order to achieve sustainable economic growth, social progress and facilitate the employability of the population of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands.”

The Second Vice President and Councilor of the Biosphere Reserve, Environment, Hunting and Fishing Area, Samuel Martín Morera, valued the initiative and pointed out that "without a doubt, this type of award will help to bring out the talent, latent and hidden in many cases, that we fortunately enjoy in abundance in our islands, especially from our young people." "From the Cabildo, we applaud and show our full support for this initiative, which will reward brilliant ideas that link the future and prosperity of Lanzarote and La Graciosa with the laudable 'Sustainable Development Goals'," he said.

For José Valle, President of the Chamber of Commerce, "this award is a unique opportunity for those who seek to make a real difference in our society." And he added: "We hope that this initiative will serve as a catalyst for the positive change and sustainable innovation that we need in Lanzarote.

For his part, Federico Romero, President of the Líneas Romero Foundation, stated that the awards are "a commitment acquired by the Foundation since our beginnings, we have always firmly believed in the power of human talent and innovation to face the most pressing challenges of our time." In this line, he assured that the purpose is "that these brilliant ideas grow and are not forgotten due to lack of resources, but that they become tangible solutions that benefit our society."
