Gerry Hutch went viral singing karaoke in Lanzarote a month before his arrest

The Irish mobster The Monk was arrested early this Wednesday morning on charges of money laundering.

The famous Irish mobster Gerry Hutch, known as The Monk for his disciplined and methodical lifestyle, was arrested last Wednesday in Arrecife by the Guardia Civil, as reported by La Voz, and accused of money laundering. The Monk, who for years has chosen Lanzarote as one of his centers of operations along with his native Dublin, had been news in the media of his country weeks ago, although for very different reasons.

A 61-year-old man went viral on TikTok after the publication, just a month ago, of a video in which El Monje appears in a karaoke bar in Puerto del Carmen, performing a duet of the song The Fields of Athenry, by his compatriots The Dubliners, together with an acquaintance from the area. The clip reached half a million views, partly thanks to the diffusion given to it by several Irish media, who quickly shared the material.
