A group of families from the municipality of Yaiza has initiated a collective petition addressed to the Ministry of Education of the Government of the Canary Islands to request the creation of an additional 1st year of ESO group at IES Yaiza for the 2026/2027 academic year.

Following the publication of the final admission lists, the families assure that a significant number of students are still without a place at the requested school. In addition to this situation, several applications were submitted out of time, which indicates that "the real demand exceeds the available educational supply".

The families recall that the choice of IES Yaiza is based on a "considered decision, based on its educational project and the desire for their children to be able to pursue Secondary Education at the public institute in their own municipality".

The families emphasize that the petition submitted to the Administration "does not seek individual benefit, but an organizational solution that allows for an objective schooling need to be met". In this regard, they consider that the creation of a new 1st year of ESO group "would benefit not only the students who remain on the waiting list, but the entire educational community of the municipality".

As they state in the document registered with the Directorate General of Centers, Schooling and Complementary Services, the expansion of the educational offer would also contribute to alleviating the high pressure on other centers in the municipality, especially CEO Montaña Roja, in a context marked by population growth and the constant increase in unexpected enrollment.

The families point out that the educational Administration itself "has recognized the special pressure the municipality is experiencing due to the increase in students and the insufficiency of educational spaces, a circumstance that, in their opinion, reinforces the need to adopt planning measures that allow for a response to this reality".

The collective request, they indicate, "has the support of the directly affected families and the support of residents of the municipality", who consider that the expansion of the educational offer "constitutes a necessary measure to guarantee an adequate response to the current and future schooling needs in Yaiza".

The families have sent letters to the General Directorate of Centers, Schooling and Complementary Services, to the Insular Directorate of Education and to the Educational Inspection, requesting that the viability be studied of creating an additional 1st year of ESO group at IES Yaiza for the next school year.

Likewise, they have expressed their willingness to maintain a constructive dialogue with the educational Administration and to collaborate in the search for solutions that guarantee the right of families to choose a school within the public network and offer an adequate response to the educational growth experienced by the municipality.

The families trust that the Ministry of Education will value this request from the general interest, understanding that the creation of a new group would represent an investment in the public education of the municipality and a planning measure that would benefit the entire educational community of Yaiza.
