The Association for the Conservation of Canary Biodiversity (ACBC), which actively participated in the international demonstrations on Saturday under the slogan 'Canary Islands has a limit', makes a proposal to the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, to solve "immediately" the overcrowding suffered every day by the Timanfaya National Park.

The ACBC recalls that the island government is the one that "manages the entrances of visitors to the Fire Mountains through the Art, Culture and Tourism Centers (CACT) of Lanzarote." The Fire Mountains are integrated into the Timanfaya National Park, the second national park in number of visits in the Canary Islands, after Teide, and the third in Spain.

According to this conservationist group, the "daily overcrowding suffered by the Timanfaya National Park and the consequent deterioration of its geological characteristics and impact on its biodiversity are being caused by the Cabildo of Lanzarote itself, by not guaranteeing compliance with the Rector Plan for Use and Management (PRUG) of the National Park and its specifications".

“We ask that instructions be given to the CACT, dependent on said Cabildo, so that from tomorrow itself the access conditions and maximum capacity of the Islote de Hilario established in the PRUG are met, which must be 90 vehicles and 8 buses, an amount that is doubled every day for years”.

“We also request the exclusive use of a reservation center of the many that exist in the market for access to the Timanfaya National Park. "This would quickly solve the problem of the endless queues of more than two hours at the entrance of the Fire Mountains”.

The ACBC denounces that "these queues of vehicles waiting to enter the National Park give rise, "for years, to the continuous invasion of visitors in the reserve areas of the Park because, while they wait, they get out of their vehicles and transit through the area causing environmental damage and deterioration of the landscape in the lava flows and volcanic cones of the entrance”.

These waits, he adds, also cause "important traffic jams on the LZ67 road that many days prevent its use during peak hours by residents, carriers and workers of the island, and that generate road insecurity in the area".

Therefore, the members of this association urge the president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, to "demonstrate" that his recent statements to an island media stating that "some talk and others work are true", and act accordingly by adopting "imminently" these measures.
