Yaiza has declared two days of local mourning for the death of the five-month-old baby in the multiple collision that occurred this Monday in Playa Blanca, according to the mayor, Óscar Noda. In addition, the City Council will host a minute of silence this Wednesday, March 13 at 12:00 noon in the Plaza de la Casa Consistorial as a sign of solidarity in the face of the pain of the tragedy.

According to sources from the City Council, one of the injured suffered a cardiac arrest after the fatal accident and had to be stabilized at the scene. Subsequently, she was transferred to the airport to be evacuated to Doctor Negrín in Las Palmas de Gran Canaria, a hospital where she is in the Intensive Care Unit (ICU).
Also, two other injured women are in the Intensive Care Unit of the Molina Orosa Hospital.
Óscar Noda revealed in an interview this Tuesday on Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero how the moments after the accident were experienced. "The images were quite chilling and harsh." The head of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Enrique Espinosa, was the first to contact the mayor. "During the call, already by the tone of voice and the way he spoke to me, I knew that the situation looked drastic," he added.
The mayor stressed that from the City Council they "regret the death of a five-month-old baby" and hope that the other injured can "recover as soon as possible," he revealed to the radio listeners.
A tragic event that has shocked the entire island. Óscar Noda sadly recalled that "we have not seen anything similar for a long time," the mayor concluded.
