The Yaiza Civil Protection Group carried out a total of 415 actions in 2013, the highest number of services provided in a year since its creation in 1995. This record far exceeds the 299 missions of 2012 and the historical data of the year 2005, when the municipal corps intervened 367 times.
Following the preventive services to guarantee the safety of citizens in sports competitions, shows, conferences and all types of gatherings of people, which totaled 128, the 42 interventions of the Yaiza Civil Protection Firefighting Unit and the 41 health assistances carried out during the last 12 months stand out.
The 2013 statistics also highlight the support provided by Yaiza Civil Protection to the work of the Local Police and Civil Guard in traffic accidents (31), beach services (29) and both maritime (15) and land (7) rescues, as well as collaboration with different security and emergency bodies operating in Lanzarote.
The mayor of Yaiza, Gladys Acuña, and the councilor for Local Police, Citizen Security and Civil Protection, Francisco Guzmán Rodríguez, wanted to thank, "on behalf of the City Council and the residents of the municipality, the professional, altruistic and selfless work of the group of 30 volunteers who make up the Yaiza Civil Protection team, dedicated and willing at any time of the day or night to help citizens protect their physical integrity and that of their property in emergency situations, even assuming personal risks".
The Yaiza City Council points out that "it continues to promote this important public service by providing the Corps with more technical resources and promoting training among the staff, so that the personnel can better perform their duties and the residents feel much safer".
