Agents from Group 5 of the Arrecife Local Police arrested two young men in the early hours of Wednesday accused of stealing more than 30 kilos of copper from the electrical installation of the San Francisco Javier football field.The two detainees are S.D, 20 years old and a native of Morocco, and J.S.G, also 20 years old and born in Arrecife.
The agents went to the scene at around 00:50 hours after receiving a call from a private telephone, alerting them to the presence of two young people inside the football field, allegedly manipulating a manhole "with the aim of stealing copper cable", as stated in the police report.
"The two young men fled when they detected the police presence, but were finally arrested and brought to justice," according to the City Council.
After the arrest, the agents went to the scene to check what had been stolen and the possible damage caused, observing that the arrested persons had climbed a lighting tower of the football field "to cut the cables".
According to the police report, the stolen objects were six cables of approximately thirteen meters in length (78 linear meters), i.e. the equivalent of 30 kilograms of copper, a three-meter metal tube and some pliers.
