Arrecife Detention

Several videos of a violent arrest by two agents of the Local Police of Arrecife have gone viral this Sunday. In the images, a man is initially seen detained and immobilized on the ground, while another couple observes right next to him and records what is happening with a mobile phone.

At that moment, one of the policemen goes to the woman and throws the mobile phone to the ground with a strong slap. The man who was with her then confronts the agent, approaching him and raising his hands, to which the policeman responds by hitting him repeatedly. He even chases him down the street until he ends up throwing him to the ground.

The woman, who until that moment was watching the scene screaming and trying to alert the neighbors, approaches the agent and tries to hit him, also falling to the ground, where the agent pushes her twice.

Meanwhile, the second policeman enters the scene, who was with the first detainee already handcuffed. There he goes to the man, who had already gotten up, and gives him a strong punch that throws him to the ground again, leaving him apparently unconscious.

In another of the videos, the neighbors are heard shouting, first with expressions of concern about the violence of the scene and then with shouts such as "abuse of power" and "abuser", addressing the agents.

According to sources close to the Local Police, the agents had stopped them because they were without masks and supposedly under the influence of alcohol and fled in a car, starring in a chase through several streets and even in the opposite direction on Boado Endeiza street.

Finally they managed to stop them on Pedro Barba street, where the events occurred. At that moment, they assure that "they began to insult the agents and record the moment of the arrest" of their partner on their mobile phone, in a controversial episode pending investigation.
