Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved victory this Saturday at the Municipal de Tías against Balonmano Zuazo (27-22), in a match corresponding to the fourth round of the División de Honor Oro.
Second consecutive victory for the "tiñoseras" who had a disastrous start to the game, allowing Zuazo a 0-3 lead from the beginning. Suddenly, like day and night, Puerto del Carmen woke up and scored a 7-0 run against the visitors, prompting Zuazo's first timeout (7-3, min. 9:54).
Zuazo was only able to score from penalties with two consecutive goals from Izaro Sáiz (10-5, min.16). The visiting team advanced their lines in search of a reaction, but the result was Joseba Rodríguez's second timeout (11-5, min. 19:40). The momentum was irrefutable as after the break Mónica Cabrea scored and Mazaira saved a penalty. These were possibly the best minutes of the season for the "tiñoseras".
The "baracaldesas" scored two consecutive goals to embrace some hope and, after an exchange of goals, it was then Casanova who called a timeout to design the last play of the first half. Puerto del Carmen went into halftime six goals ahead (15-9).
After the break, the momentum from the first half continued. Zuazo wanted to wake up, but Puerto didn't seem willing to let go of their lead (18-11, min. 7). The game continued to tick away and the difference remained. The match seemed to have two clocks, one for Zuazo's urgency and another for a Puerto del Carmen controlling the game (20-13, min. 15).
Goalkeeper Lais Ferreira made several consecutive saves of merit, but the home team remained solid and combative. Joseba Rodríguez again advanced Zuazo's defense and minimally closed the gap on the scoreboard (21-16, min. 23).
Dely Leiva and Martina Lemes broke through the visitors' pressing defense and re-established the seven-goal lead on the scoreboard (23-16, min. 24:14).
A new timeout from Zuazo sought a last-minute miracle. They came out pressing the entire court and gained some ground. A two-minute penalty for Mónica Cabrera with just over three minutes left added some spice to the game. Jesús Casanova called a timeout to calm things down for the final minutes of the match. The game became completely wild, but there was no time for more (27-22).
The visitor Mara Zubizarreta became the top scorer of the match with five goals. In the tiñoseras' ranks, three players appeared with four goals each, Brenda Torres, Leti Cobo, and Martina Lemes.
With this victory, Puerto del Carmen is ninth in the standings with four points, while Balonmano Zuazo remains in fifth position with five points.
For the tiñosero coach, Jesús Casanova, it was "without a doubt, the best game we have played this season, a very serious game, based mainly on good defense. At the beginning of the game, through that defense, giving speed to the counter-attacks, reaching the front with some clarity, we were able to get ahead and then continue increasing that score. In the second half, practically the same, good defense and running a little at the beginning and then controlling the game. By controlling the minutes, we got a good result in the end," concluded the aurinegro coach.
Second victory for Puerto del Carmen, which next Saturday, October 24, at 8:00 PM (local time), visits Anaitasuna, a team that this week has fallen defeated on the court of San José Obrero (33-27).
