National Police agents have arrested J.G.R.A., a 34-year-old man, and G.A.G.C., a 44-year-old man, in Arrecife as alleged perpetrators of a violent robbery after attempting to steal a vehicle by threatening its owner with a revolver. After being arrested, the judge ordered one of them to be imprisoned and the second to be released with charges.
Both detainees have numerous police records for property crimes and violent crimes, according to the National Police. One of them, in fact, had been arrested just four days before for crimes against traffic safety, vehicle theft, and assaulting an authority figure after leading a chase through several streets of Arrecife in which four police officers were injured.
The events unfolded after a man called the 091 hotline, reporting that while he was inside his car, two individuals approached him and, displaying a revolver, threatened him to open the door and get out of the vehicle, at which point he started it unexpectedly and was able to leave the scene.
With the physical characteristics provided by the victim, the agents conducted a search until they located the two individuals in the capital's Altavista neighborhood, who were arrested as alleged perpetrators of a violent robbery. The police officers conducted a security pat-down, seizing the revolver used minutes earlier hidden under the clothing of one of the arrested individuals.
Provisional imprisonment for one and release with charges for the other
The detainees have 17 and 30 police records, mainly for property crimes and violent crimes. Police investigations revealed that one of them had been arrested just four days before for crimes against traffic safety, vehicle theft, and assaulting an authority figure, after leading a chase through several streets of Arrecife in which four National Police officers were injured, as La Voz already reported.
After the corresponding police report was prepared, the detainees were placed at the disposal of the competent Judicial Authority, who ordered the imprisonment of one of them and the release with charges of the second.
