The young man who died on Friday night in a traffic accident was former soccer player Semi Hernández. UD Lanzarote has expressed its condolences for the death of José Miguel Hernández "Semi", who was a soccer player for several clubs in Lanzarote, including UD Lanzarote for five seasons.

The president of the Board of Directors of UD Lanzarote, Enrique de Paiz, on behalf of the entity and on his own, wishes to convey his deepest condolences to the family of José Miguel Hernández "Semi", extending his condolences to the friends and relatives of the deceased.

Semi Hernández began his training in the lower categories of CD Titerroy, later joining Altavista CF and UD Lanzarote, spending five seasons with the rojillo team. For study reasons he moved to Gran Canaria where he would play for Universidad de Las Palmas and UD Gáldar, and on his return to the island of Lanzarote he would defend the jersey of Orientación Marítima, CD Teguise and Unión Sur Yaiza.

Before the start of Sunday's match against CD Buzanada, a minute of silence will be observed in memory of Semi Hernández. A minute of silence that will also be dedicated to Mrs. Soledad Luzardo Romero, collaborator of the entity, to the father of Santi González, who was a player of the rojillo team, and for the loss of the eldest daughter of José Betancort, current coach of Altavista CF.

Semi Hernández died on Friday night on Avenida de Las Palmeras in Costa Teguise after the van he was driving collided head-on with a palm tree. According to emergency services, the young man was attended by paramedics as he was in cardiorespiratory arrest. After unsuccessful CPR maneuvers, the doctor certified the death.
