The woman who was seriously injured in the accident that occurred in the early hours of Monday to Tuesday when the floats of the Arrecife Carnival Coso were being removed, "has improved considerably within the severity" and "is conscious", according to reports from the capital's City Council. The Councillor for Festivities, David Duarte, detailed early this Thursday that the woman, an ambulance driver who collaborated in the security device, remained until Wednesday night in observation in the ICU of the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital.

In statements to Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero, Duarte explained that the event, in which another woman who also collaborated in the security and emergency device was injured, occurred when "a crane, which was carrying a float on top, tripped over an overhead electrical line". As a result, a line came off and hit the two women, seriously injuring one of them when she was hit in the head.

The councillor has lamented this "unfortunate" event and has acknowledged that "there has been a lot of speculation" about how it had occurred. However, he pointed out that "there is a police report and it will be the experts or the competent authority" who will determine who was responsible if there was any. Duarte indicated that it could be an accident or that the responsibility lies with the crane or the company installing the electric pole for this event.

Regarding the City Council itself, the head of the Festivities area has defended that in terms of security, the City Council has followed the regulations "to the letter". "With the issue of security we have been exquisite this year," he stressed. Thus, "alcohol tests have been carried out on the drivers of all the floats on entry and exit and security has been maximum, with twice the number of personnel and twice the number of ambulances." In addition, each float passed the corresponding inspection. The councillor also recalled that the security measures recommended by the Ministry of the Interior have been applied in accordance with level 4 alert in which the country has been since last Christmas.
