Uncertainty continues in the north of the island. This Saturday has started the fourth consecutive day of active search to locate Miguel Ángel Gentile, the 41-year-old Uruguayan disappeared in the vicinity of Camino de las Rositas, in the municipality of Haría. However, unlike the multitudinous deployments of previous days, this day's operation presents a change of strategy conditioned by technical investigations.
The ground search operation is composed exclusively of personnel from the Lanzarote Security and Emergency Consortium and the firefighters of La Graciosa. The tasks are focusing on two main fronts. The firefighters of the eighth island have moved with a jet ski to thoroughly inspect the entire north coast line, tracking areas of difficult access from land under the cliffs.
In addition, the Consortium keeps a drone operational to fly over the most rugged and dangerous areas of El Risco, where the orography prevents the safe passage of rescuers on foot.
The rest of the personnel, dependent on technology
The rest of the emergency services are currently on "stand-by", subject to the progress of the Guardia Civil. The armed institute, which directs the operation, is working intensely on the triangulation of Gentile's mobile phone.
This technological intelligence work is key to narrowing the search radius, as it would allow to determine with greater precision what were the man's last movements before his trace was lost. It is worth remembering that Gentile's vehicle, along with his documentation, was found in the parking lot of Camino de las Rositas, and the authorities are considering the hypothesis that the car could have been there since last April 5.
The alert was raised when Miguel Ángel's father, resident in Brazil, reported the lack of news from his son after weeks without contact. The extreme difficulty of the terrain in the Ye area has forced the Consortium's manager, Enrique Espinosa, to select only highly experienced personnel for the search parties, given the danger of the trails and the unevenness of the Risco de Famara.
