The Civil Guard seized a crocodile this Monday at noon in a house in the town of Güime. The animal, which measures 1.31 meters, was allegedly stolen from the Guinate zoo, which closed its doors a year ago, with several animals remaining there for a while. Now, Seprona has left the crocodile at Rancho Texas so that, for the moment, it can take care of its custody and care.

A large police deployment with agents from the Civil Guard and Local Police of Arrecife and San Bartolomé went to the address in Güime, which they entered with judicial authorization. This large deployment occurred, according to sources close to the case, "in prevention of being able to find illicit substances", because the tenant of this house has several police records related to drug trafficking. However, the investigation started from a complaint about the theft of crocodiles at the Guinate Park zoo.

Although the event occurred in the town of San Bartolomé, the Local Police of Arrecife participated in the operation, since last April they became aware of these events through their Animal Protection and Environment Unit. It should be noted that some of these agents attended because they had taken a course on especially dangerous exotic animals where they learned how to capture this type of animal, as explained by Francisco Godoy, a police officer from the capital, in statements to Radio Lanzarote-Onda Cero.

As explained from Rancho Texas, when Seprona seizes any animal, the first stop is at this center, within the agreement it maintains with the Cabildo. Then, depending on the species, it can remain there or be transferred to another place.
