The Civil Guard has reported to the Court a possible crime of false accusation by a tourist, who allegedly faked the theft of a watch belonging to him in a vacation apartment in the municipality of Tías. The suspect, L.G.R., is 44 years old and of foreign nationality.

The investigation began on the 3rd, when this tourist reported the theft of a Rolex valued at around 15,000 euros. According to his report, the perpetrators would have entered the apartment where he was staying while he was sleeping, unscrewing the window, and taking only this watch.

According to the Civil Guard, "both the account of the events and the modus operandi, together with the fact that only the aforementioned watch was stolen, made the agents suspect that they could be facing a simulation, with the aim of defrauding the insurance company."

Watch found

To confirm their suspicions, plainclothes agents went to the apartment complex and "surprised the complainant when he was wearing a watch on his wrist with identical characteristics to the stolen one." According to the Civil Guard, he then "tried to hide it by quickly putting it in a pocket", but "the agents seized it after a superficial search."

In addition to investigating a possible simulation of a crime, which could entail fines ranging from 6 to 12 months, the Civil Guard is also taking steps to determine if he reported it to the insurer, as there could also be a crime of attempted fraud.

The seized watch was made available to the corresponding Investigating Court on duty in Arrecife, together with the report drawn up.
