The Traffic Group of the Civil Guard identified and subsequently investigated the driver who drove for 1.6 kilometers in the opposite direction on the Lanzarote highway, crossing paths with several vehicles along the way. The 33-year-old man is being investigated for a crime of reckless driving with manifest disregard for the lives of others.
The events occurred at approximately 9:59 p.m. on January 8, at kilometer point 2.100 of the LZ-2 road (Arrecife-Playa Blanca), when the vehicle was traveling on a divided road with two lanes in each direction, traveling in the opposite direction, at which point it was recorded by a user who was correctly traveling towards Arrecife, who uploaded the images to social networks and local media.
After locating these images, the agents in charge of the investigation of the proceedings initiated a thorough investigation that led to the location and subsequent investigation of the person responsible for the events. The Local Police of Arrecife and San Bartolomé de Lanzarote collaborated in the identification of the vehicle through the recordings of the security cameras along the route.
The proceedings carried out were delivered to the Arrecife Duty Court.
