Emergency services have located this Tuesday the lifeless body of a young man inside the La Corona volcano, where he may have suffered a fall that cost him his life.
The search began on Monday, when a man called the Civil Guard from Madrid, reporting that he had not been able to contact his 29-year-old son, who was on vacation on the island, for two days.
The young man had traveled alone and the agents and emergency teams established the search area based on some photographs that he himself shared before his disappearance on Risco beach. After inspecting that road without results, the Civil Guard finally found his rental car in the vicinity, next to the hermitage of Ye.
The agents then requested judicial authorization and opened the vehicle, where they found the clothes he would have used on the beach, as well as the towel, so they began to consider that he could have continued in the area but practicing hiking, since he was a person fond of sports.
Although the search area was expanded on Monday, the work was suspended at nightfall, and resumed this Tuesday with more human and material resources, until they finally located a lifeless body.
The rugged terrain and weather conditions have complicated the rescue, which continued several hours later. The GES helicopter had also traveled to the scene, but its intervention was hampered by the wind. Finally, at around 3:30 p.m., the young man's body was recovered.
The Civil Guard has specified that once the body has been recovered, it will be identified to confirm that it really is the young man they were looking for. In addition, an autopsy will be performed to determine the causes of death.
