A 33-year-old Chinese merchant was assaulted this weekend in the tourist town of Puerto del Carmen, when he was in a shop on Avenida de Las Playas exchanging 100 euros in coins for banknotes.

According to data provided by the Civil Guard, a Maghrebi approached the Asian from behind and, after a struggle, managed to seize all his money and run away.

Once the Civil Guard of Tías was alerted to these events, the agents inquired about the identity of the perpetrator of the robbery.

The investigations bore fruit this past Monday when the agents located the address of the main suspect.

The civil guards arrested the Moroccan national Khalid A. A., 34, in an apartment on Chalana Street, accused of a Crime of Robbery with Violence against Persons.

This Tuesday morning the detainee was brought before the Court of First Instance and Instruction Number Four of Arrecife.
