The ACAIP union section of the Tahíche Penitentiary Center has denounced a new aggression in the prison, this time against a nurse.

According to the union, an inmate gave the on-duty nurse a "strong" punch in the face as he was about to provide treatment. The events took place this Monday, October 11, around 7:40 p.m. in the nursing module.

At the moment in which the prison worker turns to take the appropriate medication, the inmate takes the opportunity to punch him in the face, which causes a broken lip as well as a significant contusion in the jaw, of which he is treated in the first instance by the doctor of the penitentiary center while waiting for more tests to be carried out in the hospital to know the extent of the injuries suffered.

According to ACAPI, it is not the first time that this inmate has served a sentence in the Tahiche Penitentiary Center and in his previous sentence he attacked up to five prison workers, including the prison doctor, until his transfer to a psychiatric hospital was ordered.

Diagnosed with a serious psychiatric problem, "we have to wait as always for him to once again carry out violent acts that result in an injured worker before action is taken," they say.

Finally, ACAIP once again highlights the "very serious shortage of health personnel, of the 14 professionals who should work in said prison, currently only 6 positions are covered by career personnel."
