A striped dolphin (Stenella coeruleoalba), a common species in the waters of the archipelago, has been stranded on the beach of La Garita.

Volunteer Firefighters of Lanzarote (Boluntis) have come during the weekend to the town of Arrieta, in Haría, after being alerted by the Society for the Study of Cetaceans in the Canary Archipelago (SECAC) that this animal had been stranded on the coast.

Boluntis, Firefighters of the Consortium and a group of biologists acted together to remove the animal from the shore, which weighed 90 kilos. Thus, they moved it to the trailer and later to the SECAC headquarters on the island.

The habitat of this species is usually far from the coast. In addition, it feeds on small pelagic fish, cephalopods and some types of invertebrates, according to the Ministry for Ecological Transition of the Government of Spain on its website.

Thus, these specimens can measure between 1.8 and 2.5 meters, with newborns being approximately one meter in size. Its presence is common in all the coasts of the country, as well as in all the islands of the archipelago.
