The strong wind, which is being generated by storm Nuria as it passes through the Canary Islands, has knocked down one of the lighting towers in the Agapito Reyes Viera Municipal Football Field, in the Altavista neighborhood, in the capital of Lanzarote.

The Arrecife City Council reports that, according to the anemometer located in this capital, wind gusts with a force of up to 77 km / hour have been recorded during the afternoon of this Thursday. Since this morning, in view of the alert for storm Nuria, the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, decreed the suspension of all outdoor activities, and in the municipal sports facilities in the municipality. A suspension that came into effect at 12 noon, and will remain until the end of the alert decreed in the Canary Islands due to this meteorological situation.

The facilities of the Agapito Reyes Viera Municipal Football Field premiered in the summer of 2023 a great transformation where all its facilities and areas were adapted and modernized, including a large marquee and lighting and grass system.

As can be seen in these images, the force of the wind forced the fall of this tower, damaging its base and anchorage. In other areas of the Canary Islands there is also evidence of falls of energy distribution towers, or in sports facilities.

Arrecife has activated the Municipal Emergency Plan (PEMU)

The Arrecife City Council has activated the PEMU, Municipal Emergency Plan, and several teams remain activated to intervene, if necessary.

Likewise, Civil Protection of Arrecife, attached to the Department of Security and Emergencies, led by Councilor Kevin Cortés, has marked off the entire promenade next to Punta del Camello, due to the force of the waves.
