The famous leaning palm tree of Testeina in Masdache has dawned this Monday on the floor. One or more vandals cut it this weekend and it has been split in two.
Agents of the Local Police of Tías have approached the place and have verified that it had been sawn off one meter from the ground. Now an investigation will be opened to see if they can locate those responsible since the palm trees are protected, which constitutes an environmental crime.
The Tías City Council has come out to categorically condemn the annihilation of the emblematic Canary palm tree (Phoenix Canariensis) of Masdache. The government group expresses "its perplexity" at this attack against Nature.
The mayor, José Juan Cruz, and the Councilor for the Environment, Carmen Gloria Rodríguez, point out that "this type of vandalism cannot be tolerated and, in fact, the Local Police of Tías has opened an investigation into the matter."
“Those who destroy a palm tree specimen like this will have us in front of them. We are working to ensure that these acts of vandalism do not go unpunished. In addition to this investigation, we will continue working on environmental awareness,” says the mayor.
This place was a very popular place for tourists, in fact there is a route with its name. And it was probably one of the most photographed palm trees uploaded to Instagram.
