The Civil Guard has dismantled an organization dedicated to introducing cocaine in Lanzarote, in an operation that has resulted in six people arrested, of Colombian and Dominican nationalities, of which two are women.

The operation began in July of last year, following the arrest of a woman at the Lanzarote airport carrying 1.2 kilos of cocaine hidden in a false bottom of her suitcase, after arriving on the island on a flight from Madrid.

After that, the Civil Guard was able to verify the existence of a group that used women dedicated to prostitution as mules, taking advantage of their vulnerable situation. The drug arrived on the island from Madrid, where one of the people in the organization was in charge of getting it, and it was always done by hiding it in false bottoms in suitcases.

Two searches in homes in Arrecife

The investigation led agents of the Benemérita to conduct two searches in homes in Arrecife, of which La Voz de Lanzarote already reported on one. Specifically, one of the searches took place on November 22 on Huelva Street in the Altavista neighborhood, where two vehicles and about eight agents, as well as the canine unit used to search for drugs, were moved, according to witnesses of the events. However, the Civil Guard did not provide any information about it at the time, given that the operation was under summary secrecy.

The only drug seized was the 1.2 kilos of cocaine from the airport, but the operation carried out by the Civil Guard allowed the arrest of five other people, one of them in Madrid, and with it to dismantle the organization. In addition, three vehicles, six telecommunications devices (mobile phones and tablets), and a hydraulic press used to press the drug once cut and make it compact were seized.

The operation has been directed and coordinated by the Investigating Court number 4 of Arrecife, with the participation of the Organized Crime and Anti-Drug Team (EDOA) of the Command of the Civil Guard of Las Palmas, the Rapid Intervention Groups of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura and the Cynological Service.
