The Red Cross facilities in Costa Teguise have been affected this Tuesday by a theft and subsequent fire that has been extinguished without the material damage reaching the entire first aid station.
According to the evidence, one or more individuals would have entered the facilities breaking the glass of a door and would have taken with them the mobile phone of the surveillance service. Likewise, the intruders caused damage to the post by setting fire to one of the armchairs in the living room.
The fire was detected by the Red Cross aquatic lifeguards who joined the surveillance service of Las Cucharas beach, in Costa Teguise, at ten in the morning. Upon entering the post, the lifeguards found the living room in flames and full of smoke, so they notified the Red Cross coordination center and this, in turn, to the firefighters.
Fortunately, the fire did not reach the post's treatment room, where oxygen bottles were located, nor the garage where the relief material was stored. According to Sergio Rodríguez, emergency coordinator of the Institution who traveled to the place since he became aware of the event, "within what is possible, there has been luck because only part of the furniture will have to be replaced and the post repainted."
The events have been brought to the attention of the police authorities, who will investigate the case, and the Teguise City Council, owner of the property.
