The National Police have charged the detainee last Sunday with attempted murder, accused of spraying gasoline and then setting fire to the door of his ex-partner and son's house in Arrecife. The agents also charge this man with a crime of breach of sentence.
The arrested person has a previous record for gender violence, as confirmed to La Voz by the National Police. The detainee has not yet been brought to justice and is expected to do so in the next few hours.
The events occurred in the early hours of Saturday to Sunday at around 5.30 am, when a house on Campoamor street, in Argana Alta, suffered a fire. An hour later, the Arrecife Local Police arrested a man accused of having sprayed gasoline on the garage and the entrance to his ex-partner's house and causing the fire.
The three-year-old boy had to be treated with oxygen by the firefighters and was evacuated to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital, where he remains admitted under observation. Apparently, the minor inhaled a lot of smoke.
Both the mother and the minor managed to escape the fire by jumping to the terrace of the adjoining duplex. Thanks to the actions of the neighbors, they were able to get to safety.
