Agents of the National Police of Arrecife have managed to save a 21-year-old young man who was trying to take his own life in Arrecife. In addition, the police have also managed to prevent the health personnel involved in the operation from suffering any type of aggression.

The events took place in the Valterra neighborhood, in the capital of Lanzarote, during midnight this past Sunday to Monday. After receiving a call through the CIMACC 091 room of the National Police, the agents went to the area, alerted that a young man with psychiatric problems was being very aggressive with his parents and that he could be suffering a possible psychotic outbreak.

A basic life support ambulance had also been mobilized to the scene, but the technicians were unable to act due to the alleged violent attitude and lack of cooperation from the patient. After trying to intervene without success, the technical staff of the ambulance requested police collaboration and also that a medicalized ambulance be transferred to the area. Upon arrival of the medicalized ambulance, the doctor requested police intervention "to avoid endangering the integrity of the health personnel", since the patient still did not allow them to approach.

Once the agents decided to enter the house, the young man locked himself in a room located at the back of the house and tried to take his own life. The intervention of the agents was crucial to prevent him from dying. Once they managed to save his life, the young man continued with an aggressive attitude and tried to hit the police officers, so the health personnel transferred to the area injected him with medication up to two times to relax him and be able to move to the hospital.
