In the early hours of this Sunday, March 9, an emergency operation was activated in the Poril area, in Puerto del Carmen, after a notice was received by CECOES 1-1-2 about shouts coming from the coast. The Local Police of Tías requested support, which triggered a rapid mobilization of resources.
The GES-EMERLAN vessel was the first to arrive at the scene, transporting two agents of the Canarian Police. Shortly after, a second vessel joined the operation, with three more agents, a rescuer from EMERLAN and two from BOLUNTIS.
At the scene, the teams located a 50-year-old man in an altered state in the water. The man, who refused to cooperate, was performing apnea under the boat and was dangerously approaching the propellers of the engines, putting his life at risk. After a coordinated intervention, the rescuers managed to get the individual out to a coastal area with no exit.
While the EMERLAN and BOLUNTIS rescuers were trying to mediate with him from the water, the GES-EMERLAN vessel approached the coast to disembark the agents of the Canarian Police, who finally managed to subdue the man safely.
Once the situation was under control, the GES-EMERLAN vessel picked up all the members of the operation and transferred them to the dock, where an Advanced Life Support ambulance was waiting to assist the man and transfer him to Molina Orosa. Civil Protection of Tías also collaborated in the intervention, which concluded without major incidents.
