The Civil Guard has arrested a Local Police Officer from Mogán (Gran Canaria) for alleged crimes of embezzlement of public funds and administrative prevarication, accused of having kept about 135,000 euros from traffic fines that he imposed on foreign tourists.
In a statement, the Las Palmas Command details that the investigation was opened in June 2025, upon the Mogán City Council detecting a series of irregular sanctioning files.
In those proceedings, the detained agent annulled the sanctions he had imposed without legal justification, interrupting the corresponding administrative process
According to what was discovered by the Civil Guard, the agent allegedly initiated administrative sanctioning procedures regarding traffic and road safety for infractions he observed during his workday, demanding that the offenders pay the fine in cash, money that he then did not deposit in the Town Hall.
