The Cabildo of Lanzarote has closed the viewpoints of Los Hervideros and access to the parking lot, after rockfalls were found in the lower part of one of them. In addition, the Corporation has already informed Costas, which is responsible for the road.

The decision has been adopted based on a technical report from Geoparque, warning of the danger, as explained to La Voz by the Minister of Public Works of the Cabildo, Alfredo Mendoza. "It has been closed for a matter of security," he said, pointing out that "several months" have accumulated in which they have been aware of landslides in the area.

For its part, the Cabildo explains that a routine monitoring of Geoparque was what "confirmed the deterioration that has been occurring due to marine erosion", reflecting "the existence of eroded areas that compromise the stability of some sections of the trails".

"Our first obligation is to guarantee the safety of people, so we have proceeded to close the trails as a precaution," said the president, María Dolores Corujo.

Now, she explained that it will be the area of Public Works that will have to carry out "the necessary studies and projects to rehabilitate the area and allow the public to enjoy again a place of enormous attraction, in which you can see today the footprint of César Manrique and the delicacy with which he integrated into the landscape the trails that allow you to walk the cliff".

For his part, the councilor has guaranteed that the rehabilitation of Los Hervideros will be carried out "promptly". "Recovering Los Hervideros for its enjoyment will be a priority of the area. It is a very visited area and we have to be able to recover it as soon as possible, despite the difficulties involved in an intervention of these characteristics," Mendoza concluded.

This closure is in addition to the one that had to be agreed on February 16 on a section of the road, when a sinkhole appeared next to the road. The then Minister of Public Works, Jacobo Medina, assured that the Cabildo would act "through the emergency route" to undertake the repair, but today it remains closed. At the time, Medina blamed Costas, pointing out that it had stopped the intervention, which had forced the preparation of a new project.
