Emerlan carried out a series of joint training sessions with the Military Emergencies Unit (UME) and the Emergency and Rescue Group (GES) of the Canary Islands Government this Monday and Tuesday in Fuerteventura.
These were pioneering and highly complex training exercises, organized by Emerlan, with the objective of reinforcing the coordination and operational capacity of the different groups that must be mobilized in the event of catastrophes or civil protection emergencies.
The exercises included work with helicopter-transported rescue dogs, access to difficult-to-reach areas by rope or air transport, as well as search in large areas and rubble piles
Specialized units from different organizations attended the training sessions: Gesplan Support Unit, Military Emergencies Unit (UME), Emerlan High-Altitude Rescue Unit, Emerlan K9 Canine Unit, and GES Canarias Air Unit.
The training began with a safety briefing given by the commander of the GES MI-21 helicopter, along with his crew, in which specific protocols for aerial operations with canine guides and rescue dogs were addressed. Tuesday's session concluded with search exercises in rubble and large areas.
During the sessions, the following work was carried out, among others:
-Boarding and disembarking procedures with rotor stopped.
-Crane entry and exit techniques, for both disembarkation maneuvers and rescue operations.
-Exercises in the Barranco de La Herradura area, where each guide completed maneuvers in a real operational scenario.
-Access to difficult-to-reach areas using ropes by high-angle rescue units.
From Emerlan, they thank the UME, the Gesplan Support Unit, GES Aire, and the rest of the participating units for their professionalism, collaboration, and high technical level
These training sessions reinforce the preparation of emergency teams and improve response capacity in critical operations that require aerial coordination with canine units or high-altitude rescue.
Finally, they extend their gratitude to the Canary Islands Government's Department of Emergencies for their support and collaboration
