The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through the Area of Social Welfare and Inclusion, wishes to publicly express its sincere gratitude to the non-profit organization Emerlan and the Local Police of Teguise for their "rapid and effective intervention" in the search and rescue operation of one of the users of the island's elderly care centers last Saturday.
The Councilor for Social Welfare and Inclusion, Marci Acuña, highlighted "the professionalism and dedication of the EMERLAN team and the municipal agents, who did not hesitate to act even in very adverse weather conditions, demonstrating once again their commitment to the safety and well-being of all citizens of Lanzarote."
The search operation was activated at 9:30 p.m. on Saturday, coinciding with the intense downpour that fell on the island that day. Emerlan immediately mobilized a large device composed of its Drone Unit, the K9 Canine Unit, the High Altitude Rescue Unit (URA), and an advanced life support (ALS) ambulance.
Once deployed to the site, a joint operation was established with the Local Police of Teguise, coordinating efforts to initiate the location of the missing user. The search began with the Drone Unit and the "Jandía" Canine Unit, who managed to locate the person, who was deliberately hiding to avoid being seen, unaware that both the drone and the expert sense of smell of "Jandia" had already detected their position.
Subsequently, the High Altitude Rescue Unit accessed the difficult-to-reach area and proceeded to transfer the user to the ALS ambulance, where they were assessed by healthcare personnel and later transferred to the Lanzarote General Hospital for a more detailed examination.
"The coordinated work between all the intervening bodies and, especially, the involvement of each member of EMERLAN and agents of the Local Police of Teguise, was key to a favorable outcome," Acuña emphasized.
