Members of the Civil Guard from the Main Posts of Costa Teguise and San Bartolomé, in Lanzarote, have arrested this Thursday morning a citizen of foreign nationality with initials R.M.W., 33 years old, as the alleged perpetrator of a crime of injury against his sentimental partner, or gender violence. After this alleged episode of gender violence, the detainee tried to take his own life. The agents found this man unconscious, while he was trying to hang himself, and managed to prevent his suicide.

The events took place in a hotel in Costa Teguise. At 2.25 am, the Civil Guard was alerted by hotel staff about an alleged case of gender violence that had just been committed, involving tenants of foreign nationality. Upon arriving at the hotel, the agents found a woman - a tourist of foreign nationality - and her minor daughter, as well as staff from the business in question. The guards were able to observe that the woman had an "open wound on one of her eyebrows, so an ambulance was requested", explains the Benemérita.

According to the Civil Guard, before their arrival, the intervention of a hotel security guard was "important", who was "the first to assist the apartment where the events were taking place and assist the victim, whom he accompanied to the reception while notifying" the police force, they relate.

Attempted hanging with an electric cable

After gathering the first investigations at the reception, the three Civil Guard agents immediately went to the apartment in question to arrest the alleged perpetrator of the gender violence case. Upon arriving at the apartment and seeing that there was light inside, the agents knocked on the door repeatedly, but without response, so a master key was requested from the business staff to enter and arrest the alleged perpetrator of the events.

It was upon entering the bedroom that they discovered that R.M.W. "had tried to take his own life by hanging himself, with the help of an electric cable tied to his neck and the doorknob", relates the Benemérita.

The detainee had "let himself fall" and was "unconscious, almost lying on the ground, hanging by his neck, and his face showing a clear purple hue", explains the armed institute. "Immediately the agents cut the cable and, after verifying that R.M.W. did not present vital signs, they placed him in a safety position and after several maneuvers managed to revive him, while requesting another ambulance".

After being attended to and assessed  by the corresponding health services, R.M.W. was arrested hours later, passing to the disposition of the corresponding Court, on guard duty, of the town of Arrecife during the morning of the 6th.
