The year has just begun and with it, the incessant trickle of immigrants aboard boats. Early on Sunday morning, a boat was found on La Garita beach, in the municipality of Haría. The boat was empty when the Civil Guard found it stranded on the sand at around 8:30 in the morning. Its occupants must have escaped under cover of darkness.
The Civil Guard launched a search operation in the surrounding area, which after a few hours resulted in the arrest of seven people of Maghrebi origin, three of them minors, who apparently had arrived in Lanzarote aboard the boat found. Two other men were arrested while trying to hide the immigrants in vans. In total, nine people were arrested.
